If you enjoy the movie scene in Atlanta and are looking to discover new films, the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival is happening right here in town! From January 24th to February 15th, join some of the most talented filmmakers in the world in a celebration of their art. The line-up for this year’s festival is jam-packed with screenings and many features that will be premiering in the U.S. Over the span of the festival, 75 movies will be shown from 24 countries.

While most of the films being presented at the festival are indie flicks and documentaries, the array of talent that is a part of these projects is unbelievable. For example, Emma Thompson and Brendan Gleeson star in  Alone in Berlin which premieres on January 24th as a part of the AJFF’s opening night program. The Last Laugh is a new documentary that, in the thread of Jewish related themes that populate the festival, explores the topic of Holocaust jokes and stars Mel Brooks, Sarah Silverman, and Chris Rock.

With the premiere of The Last Laugh, we begin to see ties to Atlanta with Chris Rock, who was here when What to Expect When You’re Expecting was filmed. But there are other more prevalent connections, including Olympic Pride, Olympic Prejudice that has multiple screenings throughout the festival and is directed by Deborah Riley Draper, a Savannah native. But Draper is not the only Georgia connection in the film: according to the AJFF blog, several of the interviewees in the film are connected to Atlanta.

This year’s festival will kick off on January 24th at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre and end on February 15th at Woodruff Arts Center’s Symphony Hall with showings throughout the city in-between. Check-out the full schedule on the AJFF website for more details. Tickets for the festival are on sale now and can be ordered either online, by phone, or at the box office! Our AMT crew will certainly be there! Will you?

Last week, the crew, including Tad and Melissa, from the B98.5 Morning Show joined us for a custom Best of Atlanta tour. We loved having them and enjoyed the shout-out on their show, but during their tour’s trivia game we gave out special prizes from the new GA filmed movie The Accountant.

thumbnail_2016_oct7_b985_1web

A thriller full of intelligence and intrigue, The Accountant is the tale of a mathematics professor turned CPA for criminal organisations. Ben Affleck and Anna Kendrick are just two members of an all-star cast that called Atlanta home while filming last year. Now the film is in theaters, and before you go see it, here is what one of our AMT Insiders had to say after being invited to an advanced screening:

“It was like Good Will Hunting meets Jason Bourne. The cast was top rate! Affleck portrayed Chris, an autistic accountant, who is actually a deadly assassin. I know it sounds far-fetched, but that’s what was fun about the film.”

amt_accountant5
While our Insiders enjoyed the film, it was a little difficult to pick out the Atlanta locations used. But that’s why we’re here to help! It may be difficult to spot places because the main location used was the Georgia Tech campus which served as the headquarters of Living Robotics in the film. The large glass conference room where Chris, Ben Affleck’s character, spends a lot of his time is on Tech’s campus, and the complex mathematical formulas written on the glass throughout the movie were created by Tech professor Arnold Schneider. Through some movie magic and the use of clear static-cling vinyl stickers, the production team was able to fill the walls with Ben Affleck’s “hasty” handwriting and Professor Schneider’s formulas.

In addition to the campus, our Insiders also spotted several Atlanta natives in scenes as extras. Josh spotted our very own Colin Cary in a press conference scene, and another Atlanta extra, David Mysona, in a scene where he was teaching a class.

We are proud and excited that this film was shot in Georgia and can’t wait to talk about it in the Best of Atlanta tour!

First off, just a heads up that we’re speculating here and calling out spoilers from The Walking Dead comic and S7 trailer, so you’ve been warned…

As The Walking Dead descends on New York Comic Con, (complete w/ absent Andrew Lincoln pranking Norman) we grab the popcorn and hit “play” on the Season 7 Premiere sneak peek of “Right Hand Man,” and it does not disappoint! Watch below and let us know what you think!

There are sooooo many thoughts coming out of this, but the intense stares between Rick and Negan are about perfect. So, let’s dive into where we think this could go…

Clearly someone’s dead and, unlike the cliffhanger of the S6 finale, we are going to (read: Oh, we better!) find out whose blood is dripping from Lucille. My bet is Abraham and Glenn, and while I wouldn’t call either of them Rick’s “right hand man,” I don’t think the title of the episode is a shout-out to that, but something even bigger coming that dates back early in the comic.

Image Comics

A year ago showrunner Gimple stated to The Hollywood Reporter, “I’ll give you an absolute because I’ve been dealing with a lot of ambiguity in storytelling here in protecting the story: Rick’s hand is safe. You can proclaim it from the mountaintops: His hand is safe! He will be wrapping it. There will be some ointments involved.” Not sure that’s going to be the case this season. Negan’s taking of the hatchet and the dragging of Rick into the RV is again a foreshadowing of a darkness that Negan, in all his sexiness, is going to continue to bring to TWD, and I, for one, am ready for the shakedown! Speaking of RVs, Atlanta Movie Tours may have a little RV fun coming at you pre-Walker Stalker Con Atlanta!

Now, don’t get me wrong, everyone has their favorites, some character-based, some actor, but if Gimple, Kirkman, Nicotero, Hurd, and Alpert want us to continue to be invested in this, they have to show that everyone and everything in this post-apocalyptic world is expendable. Sounds like they’re really going to bring it with Season 7 based on what they said at NYCC. Now it’s time to get that popcorn ready and hang on tight for one heck of a season. What better way to do that than going on a special tour hosted by IronE “T-Dog” Singleton, watching the premiere at Battle & Brew after an awesome Big Zombie 1 tour, or joining us at Walker Stalker Con and the epic House of Payne Halloween Party?!?

Plenty to see, catch up on, play, etc. here on AMC.com

To celebrate the September 13th DVD release of Walt Disney Studio Home Entertainment’s Captain America: Civil War, we partnered with Disney to give 30 super fans and bloggers a chance to explore the Marvel Universe in Atlanta.
  2016_sept10_ca_14web
We boarded our bus, aka Big Blue, from the Atlanta Movie Tours shop in Castleberry Hill and set off on a journey specifically catered to the filming of Captain America: Civil War. Kent, Clyde, and Josh walked us through the ins and outs of filming on a Marvel set, both in the city and at the Avengers’ headquarters Pinewood Studios just south of the city in Hapeville.
 ca_web2
Our guests were excited about this new tour from the start but were surprised to see a special guest outside our stop at the Atlanta Civic Center which doubled as the Center for Infectious Disease in Lagos, Nigeria from Captain America: Civil War.  Steve Rogers stood in his Captain America suit outside the gate, shield in hand. We were so thrilled for our guests to meet the newest addition to our team, Jonathan Sellars, who joined us as our Cap impersonator.

While the September 10th tour was largely focused on Captain America, we are excited to announce that Atlanta Movie Tours will be the home of a new Hero Tour! This new  three-hour-long tour will include never-before-heard stories from our Insiders who have worked side by side with Marvel to bring the worlds of superheroes to Atlanta, and it will start booking in November!

Last month, Atlanta Movie Tours had the amazing opportunity to help the Atlanta History Center in celebrating the premiere of the final Hunger Games movie. Fans danced and explored and posed for pictures with Jenny, our “Katniss,” and took in the amazing history of the Swan House that was used in the of filming for President Snow’s mansion. November 22nd, when this Storm The Capitol event took place, it was cold and the sky was overcast. But as our Insiders milled around and talked to the fans who had come out, we saw nothing but smiles from people young and old. There were tiny Katnisses, other tributes, and even a few miniature Capitol citizens who happily lined up in their costumes for a contest to see if their efforts (and the efforts of their parents) to bring the characters they loved so much paid off.

This is just one of the things that I have seen that makes our jobs so amazing. The gathering of fans of all ages to celebrate a movie, whose premiere essentially marked the end of an era, and the mixing of history and the technology used to bring the film to life is what we are here to cultivate.

2015 saw a boom in the film industry in Atlanta. The production signs that come with filming were so numerous that it seemed as if you could throw a rock and hit one. And in Castleberry Hill, our little corner of Atlanta saw filming galore. Shows like Containment and movies like Captain America: Civil War were shot right down the road and across the street from our shop. And as the industry began to increase, so did our shop.

Renovations to our amazing little shop happened and turned it into a slightly bigger amazing shop. And now we are equipped to host premiere parties, like we did with The Walking Dead season 6 in October, and to stock even more merchandise from your favorite shows that are filming near and around us.

With so much happening in 2015, it’s exciting to wonder what is in store for 2016. This year couldn’t have been better, and we are looking forward to seeing you on our tours in the new year.

It’s becoming increasingly obvious that Atlanta is the place to be for movie and television shoots. In the little over a year that I have been here, countless movies and shows have shot on my college’s campus and in the surrounding areas. Just the other day, I was rerouted leaving my nannying job because “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” starring Zac Efron and Selena Gomez was filming in the subdivision where I was working. But there are plenty of other movies that are about to start filming around town in the next few months.

1. “Passengers”

This movie starring Chris Pratt, Michael Sheen, and Jennifer Lawrence is a Sci-Fi thriller where they are the only two awake in a spaceship while everyone else is still in hyper-sleep. And it is being directed by Morten Tyldum, who directed “The Imitation Game,” and is written by Jon Spaihts, who penned the “Doctor Strange” script. It’ll be filming in September.

2. “Young Americans”

Directed by John Krokidas and starring Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan (who worked together in Krokidas’ other movie, “Kill Your Darlings” in 2013), “Young Americans” will tell the story of Karl Rove and Lee Atwater and their cross-country road trip all the way to the White House in a crash-course taught by Atwater about politics and dirty tricks. The movie is set to begin filming in October.

3. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”

Pre-production for the second Guardians movie is beginning in Atlanta. The movie is set to film in Pinewood Studios near Atlanta, where parts of both “Captain America: Civil War” and “Ant-Man” were filmed. Filming is set to take place in February of 2016 as a part of a five-year plan that was signed between Pinewood and Marvel.

4. “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising”

The sequel to the comedy “Neighbors” has been seen filming around town this week. In addition to the filming in Dunwoody and in the parking lot of Perimeter Mall, Zac Efron and crew working on the film have been seen near the Howell Mill and the 75 North exit.

5. “Containment”

This CW show has set up shop in Castleberry Hill near Atlanta Movie Tours and has been seen filming on Spring Street. It follows the story of characters quarantined in Atlanta fighting for their lives after an epidemic breaks out.

Be sure to look out for yellow production-code signs and follow websites like Fanbolt or Project Casting for more information about projects filming in Atlanta.

We are still at 327 Nelson St. SW, but you may notice a few things that are different about our shop. We’ve recently been renovating to expand the store and add new things like props and merchandise space. IMG_4776

Now when you walk into our shop, instead of a wall to your left, you will see an entirely new room. We knocked out one of the walls and expanded the space back to create a new area for merchandise. We also hope to use the space as an area for premieres and parties, making use of the long room and the projection screen that can be seen behind Katniss in this photo.

IMG_4775

You may also notice that the cut-out of Katniss is standing on something. That pedestal is a prop from The Hunger Games Franchise, we’re very excited to have it in the shop.

IMG_4774

The rest of our shop is still the same. The wooden spools that we have added to this side of the store will be used to hold and display other merchandise.

Our store has also grown in terms of the items that we now carry. Since the filming of the third Captain America movie in our backyard, we’ve stocked some Captain America items. Also, we’ve started to carry some Vampire Diaries merchandise since that also films in Atlanta, as well as new Walking Dead stuff.

So come out to Castleberry Hill and visit our re-vamped shop!

Today the movie Ant-Man is release nation-wide. The movie starring Paul Rudd was filmed in Atlanta, both in the city and at Pinewood Studios in Fayetteville, GA. The studio was opened in 2013, and the release of Ant-Man marks the US branch’s first feature film. Right now, in addition to filming in Castleberry Hill (where our shop is located) and other areas in Atlanta,  Captain America: Civil War is using Pinewood to bring another piece of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to life.

We love having such a fantastic studio so close to us that brings in movies like these to film in Atlanta. And we can’t wait to see how Ant-Man turned out this opening weekend.

AMC has been busy bringing the zombie realm to life. The much anticipated Walking Dead spin-off set in California at the start of the zombie outbreak is set to begin on August 23rd. The season will only be six episodes, but fans are already excited to see how the world on the other side of The States fared after the dead came back. The new series stars Ruben Blades, Mercedes Mason and many others and chronicles the lives of those affected by the virus that Rick wasn’t around to see because he was stuck in the hospital where The Walking Dead series started. It looks like it’s going to be just as zombie-filled as it’s original material, though the story lines are brand new and separate from the comics, but with Robert Kirkman at the head of things, the spin-off should be just as exciting as it’s sister show.

The full trailer that debuted at Comic Con 2015 can be seen here:

Along with the new spin-off, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is set begin on October 11th, and fans are equally as excited to see what’s happening to Rick and his gang on the East Coast. We know from being so close to Senoia and the filming at the Safe Zone that a majority of season 6 takes place there, but a lot can happen inside the walls of Alexandria over the course of a season. And from the trailer that was shown at The Walking Dead panel at Comic Con, it doesn’t look like Rick and his people are any safer with the people of Alexandria than they would be with the Walkers outside the wall. And it looks like Daryl is going to get into some trouble when the foreshadowed Wolves come into play this season.
