“Rise Up” was the marketing tagline for the Atlanta Falcons as they made their way to Super Bowl LII, and rising up was exactly what the Falcons did in Houston this past weekend. They rose to the occasion and played the closest game in Super Bowl history–the first to go into overtime. And while the Falcons lost to the Patriots, this will not be the last time Atlanta is in the Super Bowl spotlight. In 2019, the 53rd Super Bowl is set to be hosted in Atlanta right near Atlanta Movie Tours’ neighborhood of Castleberry Hill. The new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, that can be see from Nelson St. SW, will be completed, and even if the Falcons don’t travel to the Super Bowl, the Super Bowl will be brought to their home.
During the Super Bowl, the teaser for Stranger Things season 2 dropped, and showed the town of Hawkins, Indiana in even more danger than season one. The Duffer Brothers have said this second season takes a lot of inspiration from movie sequels like Terminator 2 and Aliens, and if that is any indication of what is to come, we are not ready. But fans have until Halloween, when all episodes will be released on Netflix, to prepare, and Atlanta natives and visitors can look forward to seeing elements of the towns around Atlanta in the show because filming is currently taking in Stockbridge and other locations outside the perimeter.
If you’re not a fan of football, you may recognize the “Rise Up” phrase from the newest promotional material for The Walking Dead, which will be coming back to Atlanta to film season 8. The mid-season premiere for season 7 is on February 12th, just in time to fill the gap of football on Sunday night. And Atlanta Movie Tours wants you to come spend your Sunday night with us at Smoke Ring for our “Rise Up & Hook Up” watch party on February 12th. Meet other fans and AMT Insiders, enjoy BBQ from Smoke Ring, and experience the premiere of The Walking Dead. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
Football season is over. But The Walking Dead is just beginning.
